Ipods and other mp3 players are now very popular these days. Even mobile phones that have a large storage capacity can now be used as a portable music player. Everywhere you go you can see people of all ages are using this mp3 players. But it is very alarming that this people were really hooked up with their mini gadgets that they continuously listen to their mp3 players for an average of not less than 2 hours a day. They listen to their mp3 players while at the mall, bus, or working out at the gym. I remember one time while I am riding on a bus that the teenager sitting right next to me was listening to her favorite rock music. How do I know that it was a rock music? Because she turned the volume all the way up that I could almost hear the “All Apologies” song by Nirvana. These people don’t realize that excessive use of this devices and turning them up to a very high volume can cause them hearing impairment.

“With the older devices, like the Walkman, if you turned them up all the way, they sounded very bad, so people didn’t do it. Now, they don’t sound bad at maximum volume, and that could pose a problem,” says Jodi Cook, Ph.D., director of the hearing aid program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

Did you know that a noise induced hearing loss is the most common, irreversible, occupational hazards world-wide-and it’s completely preventable? Such problems need to be addressed that’s why some companies like Sonomax developed a Noise Reduction Device and Digital Hearing Devices for consumer’s hearing protection.

Don’t be too abusive and start protecting your ears now such as listening to a low volume so you can ensure that you will be able to enjoy listening to your favorite songs for a long time.
